check out the new addition to our family:)
isn't she purty??
our neighbor's daughter, Jodie, recently moved and had an extra chandelier that she no longer wanted to use. after being in our home and seeing my love for junk, old, rustic and antique, she offered to give us the chandelier. give!! i was super excited and couldn't believe she was willing to part with it. after a million hugs and 'thank you's', this baby found it's way into our house.
Jodie has a love home decorating, DIY and specifically, chandeliers. she said in her old house, there was a chandelier in every room, and had found this specific chandelier in an antique shop down in Atlanta, where she used to live.
we actually acquired it over the summer, but it sat in our guest room for months before brandon and my dad got around to hooking it up. the last light that was over our table was much to close to the wall, making it hard to center the table. back in the 50's, when this house was built, this room was the dining room and living room, and i imagine the table was much more humble in size, since the rest of the room housed things like couches, chairs and a t.v.
we like to accommodate all our dinner guests and giving them two inches of room to squeeze into their chair just wasn't cutting it. so we chose to use a hook to swag the chain over about a foot and center the light over the pushed out table.
instead of the usual flame shaped bulbs, i opted for round bulbs, to modernize things a little. my next step is to take off the black tubes that the bulbs sit on and paint them another color, other than black. my first thought would be either oil rubbed bronze or off white, but now i wonder if adding a little pop of color on them could be cool? that's the beauty of spray paint...you can change your mind and it's no big deal to change it up again. and with the collection of spray paint that i own, i could definitely try a few different options!
lastly, next on my agenda is to re-paint or find new frames for my friend-less frame wall (as brandon calls it:)) since the chandelier speaks volumes and is such a statement piece, i want to tone down the background colors and do something more neutral and less colorful. i loved the look of that wall at first, but now with two competing design elements, something needs to change.
the rustic jade team is a-thriftin' this weekend, so maybe i will find some things to add and replace on my frame wall.....fingers crossed!
tell me your thoughts on Lady Chandelier! suggestions on colors and options to switch things up a little....i need me some more 'flow' in this room. help!

maggie

Junk Funk
Ugh. Is anyone else feeling the "blah" of winter yet? I know, it seems it just began (since we really haven't had much snow or cold until now)...but that's not what gets me. I just have a hard time when it's pitch black when I wake up and then also dark not too long after I return home from work.
The other part about it, is that it makes it really hard for a girl to "junk"! I've been lacking in my good finds lately. I thought some of you may be in the same "junk funk" that I am in, so I thought I would share one of my secrets. You wanna know a place you can find some unexpected junks and rustic feeling items?? Gordman's. It's totally either hit or miss, but oh man--is it fun when you get a hit! And isn't that how real junking works anyway??!
A lot of the stuff that you find in my house, as well as my mom and sister's, actually comes from Gordman's. It's cute stuff at a great price, which is always hard to pass up! Here are some examples:
Some other fun things that I got for Christmas (I got a lot of fun stuff, but forgot to take pics of some of it before I packed it away for next year's Christmas decorating!):
So there you have it...those are some of my most recent fun things. What about you? Where do you go during the winter to get your junk fill??
Love,
Hannah

I loved this "Home" sign and I was able to snag it for a really good deal!!
You might recognize this from my post about the craft show that I want to this past fall. I was so exited to finally get it from Heidi for Christmas!! :)

Decoration Inspiration Christmas Style
As Maggie said--December was SO crazy! I can't believe Christmas is already over--where has the time gone?! I am sad, but I look forward to a new year FULL of many amazing things. I know God has a lot in store, and I'm anxious to see all that unfolds.
I thought I would share some decoration inspiration Christmas style--aka mostly "Grannie Annie" style. My mother is the one to blame for my love for junk. Can you see why....?!
This gorgeous door at the end of the hallway. It is beautifully decorated all year long, but this arrangement especially took my breath away!
Uh! So cute! Trust me-these pics do not even do it all justice.
My mom's house is always so cozy, especially around Christmas. It's part of what makes the season so special. I only hope that I can re-create that feeling for my family someday!
Here is a fun project of mine:
I bought a Living Social coupon a while ago for Lacey Bella Designs--time was running out to use it, so I bought a few wall decals with no plans to use them on walls at all! Where else would I put them? Well, old windows of course! I have another decal exactly like the one pictured above if anyone is interested!
I have plans for another decal I bought for our bedroom...I'll fill ya in later.
And last, but not least--here is a pic of Hurley and Cinder at grandma and grandpa Vetsch's house! They love Christmas too! :)
Love,
Hannah

rustic meets mod
SOLD
Please still let us know if you are interested in us making another!
looking for a great christmas idea for that girl with too many earrings?? look no further! here is a stunning way to display all your favorite accessories. rustic and shabby wood paired with a cool, geometric patterned screen makes a perfect home for your jewelry.
and for the record...you can never have too many earrings.
fun, fabulous and functional
thankfully, this ritual no longer happens. all my earrings are happily smiling at me, separated into neat, little pairs, while hooked onto an earring display frame. a frame very similar to this one here. (okay okay, i might have three of these frames...like i said...never enough earrings...)
a closer view of the details
we are selling this lovely display frame for $25, so please email us at therusticjade@gmail.com if you are interested in purchasing it. hannah and i have been busy little bees lately, and have been creating more and more items that will eventually be up in our rustic jade shop. we would be happy to create a custom color and size of frame for anyone who is interested, as we understand that everyone has their own preferences. prices may vary, depending on the size of frame and materials used.
with the christmas season nearing quickly, this would make someone very happy:) 'cause everyone loves a handmade gift, right?
xoxo,
maggie
i need some feedback. is this cute? do you like the color? pattern? hate it? please share:)

representin'
the rustic jade has a groupie. it's my husband. at first he questioned the name that hannah and i came up with, but ever since the blog launch, he has been on board. he supports my ideas and most importantly, supports my crazy junking habit. he also hasn't been able to park his car in the garage since april....i'd say that's some serious support, no?
anyway, this past monday we took a trip to center grove orchard. that trip is a post of another day, but a small part of the day was spent at their amazing pumpkin patch. i have never been to a pumpkin patch before, so it was a new and fun experience! peyton had fun playing in the dirt (surprise, surprise) and squeezing all the little, green seeds on the ground. she hung out with the grandparents, while brandon and i went on a mission. to find the best pumpkin in the patch. brandon makes everything a competition:)
not only did we find the best pumpkin, we found five of them! and one was especially cool. from across the patch, brandon yells at me to come to where he is. with a big smile on his face, he holds up the sweetest pumpkin ever and says with a sassy voice, "it's the rustic jade!" it was adorable. we lugged them all back home with us and now mr. rustic jade himself has a home on my dining room table.
isn't he sweet?? i'm going to be sad when he's a shriveled up mess in our compost pile:( but until then...my heart will beat a little faster when i walk into my dining room.
xoxox,

Decoration Inspiration
If you've read my "about me" section, then you know that my love for rustics came from my wonderful momma. The love has also been sparked by my sister's love for rustics, so you will most likely see many ideas that I get from them in blog posts. I hope you will enjoy their ideas as much as I do!
I thought I would take this opportunity to show you just what I mean... (please excuse the poor lighting and therefore, also the poor quality of some of the pictures...I am pretty sure you will be able to look past it and see all of the cute-ness anyway) ;)
Just so you know, my family lovingly refers to my mom as "Grannie Annie" now that there are grand-kids in the picture. So, when I talk abut Grannie Annie I am referring to my mom :)

Fall at Grannie Annie's House.....
Gah! Look at her awesome entry-way.... |
Now for inside....
Seriously. These pictures do NOT do it justice! Aren't the above little pumpkins adorable and great for decorating?! You probably saw them in numerous pictures. And lucky a girl that has a mom that always surprises her with fun gifts....my mom got me some too!! I still need to find a home for mine--any ideas anyone? I need a big enough Ball jar so I can put some in one like she did. (Oh by the way, I believe she said she found these babies at Michael's in case any of you were wondering)
Annnnd since my mom is so sweet and I love her so much, I thought I would surprise HER with giving her a little extra for her birthday (yes, my mom's bday is in October too! It's truly a fab month). Remember the post about this little junking trip that Maggie and I went on? And I had promised I would post some of what we found? Wellll...I will be sharing a few of them right now:
Ahhh I am in love with this crate! This is the jewel that I gave my mom!
You could do so much with this as far as decorating ideas...right now it's filled with gourds, but Christmas time possibly some bulbs or greenery?
Here's the wire basket I got that I am keeping for myself! I have been looking for more wire crates at a fair price, and I finally found one!
Feel inspired?
Love,
Hannah
