Junk Funk

Ugh. Is anyone else feeling the "blah" of winter yet? I know, it seems it just began (since we really haven't had much snow or cold until now)...but that's not what gets me. I just have a hard time when it's pitch black when I wake up and then also dark not too long after I return home from work.

The other part about it, is that it makes it really hard for a girl to "junk"! I've been lacking in my good finds lately. I thought some of you may be in the same "junk funk" that I am in, so I thought I would share one of my secrets. You wanna know a place you can find some unexpected junks and rustic feeling items?? Gordman's. It's totally either hit or miss, but oh man--is it fun when you get a hit! And isn't that how real junking works anyway??!

A lot of the stuff that you find in my house, as well as my mom and sister's, actually comes from Gordman's. It's cute stuff at a great price, which is always hard to pass up! Here are some examples:
A cute "egg" basket. Hard to see here, but it has a worn, red, rubber handle. Now I just need to think of what to put in it--any suggestions?? Heidi got this for me for Christmas, as well as the other goody that you see below...

A cute crate box. You can find one of these in each household of the women in my family!

I loved this "Home" sign and I was able to snag it for a really good deal!!
Some other fun things that I got for Christmas (I got a lot of fun stuff, but forgot to take pics of some of it before I packed it away for next year's Christmas decorating!):
You might recognize this from my post about the craft show that I want to this past fall. I was so exited to finally get it from Heidi for Christmas!! :)

I LOVED my rustic letter my mom got me!
So there you have it...those are some of my most recent fun things. What about you? Where do you go during the winter to get your junk fill??

Hannah

Decoration Inspiration Christmas Style

As Maggie said--December was SO crazy! I can't believe Christmas is already over--where has the time gone?! I am sad, but I look forward to a new year FULL of many amazing things. I know God has a lot in store, and I'm anxious to see all that unfolds.

I thought I would share some decoration inspiration Christmas style--aka mostly "Grannie Annie" style. My mother is the one to blame for my love for junk. Can you see why....?!

This gorgeous door at the end of the hallway. It is beautifully decorated all year long, but this arrangement especially took my breath away!

Uh! So cute! Trust me-these pics do not even do it all justice.

My mom's house is always so cozy, especially around Christmas. It's part of what makes the season so special. I only hope that I can re-create that feeling for my family someday!

Here is a fun project of mine:
I bought a Living Social coupon a while ago for Lacey Bella Designs--time was running out to use it, so I bought a few wall decals with no plans to use them on walls at all! Where else would I put them? Well, old windows of course! I have another decal exactly like the one pictured above if anyone is interested!

I have plans for another decal I bought for our bedroom...I'll fill ya in later.

And last, but not least--here is a pic of Hurley and Cinder at grandma and grandpa Vetsch's house! They love Christmas too! :)

Fa La LA!

Just thought I would share some Christmas tunes I've been enjoying lately....check them out!!

Dave Barnes: Very Merry Christmas

Andrew Belle: Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

OneRepublic: Christmas Without You

Anyone have any other good Christmas music to share? I kind of always forget about it and then sometimes it can be hard to find Christmas music from the artists you like. Do share!!

Hannah

Photo Recap!

As Maggie promised, here are some pics to re-cap our show! She will probably post some as well from her point of view, but here are some of my favs that I snapped...

 Meg's cute handmade signs...

It's hard to see, but Meg made a bunch of really cute twig snowflake ornaments--maybe she will have to post a better picture :)
Lot's of fun stuff! I LOVE the chalkboard headboard Meg made!

A magnetic board with a barnwood frame...and cute jade colored boards with hooks!
A shot of the whole booth!
 More frames....
 Our handsome helper :)
The Rustic Jaders and their partner in crime :)
A closer up view of a variety of frames. You can use them for many different things: hanging earrings, Christmas ornaments (as you can see below), to display pictures or cards by using clothespins (like our Rustic Jade sign), etc...
The insulators! They looked so pretty all lit up!

We enjoyed doing our first show and hope to continue to do more! We met some really cool people, including our vendor neighbor Lucy's Forget Me Nots. Check them out on Facebook or Etsy--they sell mittens that they've recycled from old sweaters! They are all very neat and warm--I got a pair :)

Vintage Me Teal

Do you remember when I found this thing that I wasn't quite sure what it was? (See blue thing below).

Well, our lovely friend Meg filled me in--it's a vintage electric pole insulator. The reason why I thought it was from a railroad track, was because my grandma had some and she told me that they had come from electric poles that ran along the train track behind the house my grandfather grew up in (I knew I had heard it somewhere!) And guess what? She recently gave me the two from his house! How special!!

And remember when I said I wanted to try a fake candle lit underneath?

Oh yeah, baby. These things looks sooo cute with the candles underneath!

And guess what? If you're coming to our Mason City sale, then look what's in store for you:

I know! It's exciting :)

Oh MYlasses!

Have you ever seen so.many.cookies??

And that's not all! Along with the Peanut Butter Blossoms, we had:

Puppy Chow...

Andes Mint Cookies...(hard to tell here but they are GREEN!)...

Molasses Cookies....

6 Layer Bars...

AS WELL as, Pumpkin Bread, Sugar Cookie dough, and Oreo Balls!!

Why in the world would there ever be a reason to make so much dessert, one would ask??
Well, four girls that want to be ready for the holidays! Thanks to our organized friend, Rachel, we were able to join forces to whip out all of these scrumptious things in 5 hours! (Of course it helped to have the baking party at Rachel's mom house who has a TON of counter space and TWO ovens! As well as two of the girls having KitchenAids.)

Here are some "in the process" shots:

Ready and waiting for baking!
 Miss Maggie hard at work.

That's right. We devoted a whole Sunday to bake. And we honestly were really good at not eating everything! :)

The whole idea behind it all was so that we could be prepared for parties during the holidays. How nice it is to know that I have BAGS of frozen cookies waiting to be devoured when needed.

I have to share at least one recipe with you (ask if you would like more). I feel like most of the items we prepared are pretty common, but there is one that is to die for. My sister warned me that they are addicting and that it's difficult to stop eating (hence, why that is ONE cookie I have NONE left due to my hubby...his solution?? Just make more!) :)

Molasses Cookies:
3 sticks of Fleishman's (softened)
2 cups white sugar
*Cream two ingredients above

1 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
1/2 cup mild molasses
*Add to above mixture

4 1/3 cup flour
1 1/2 T soda
1 tsp each of cloves and ginger
2 tsp cinnamon
pinch of salt
*Mix and add to above

Roll into walnut sized balls
Roll in sugar
Bake 8-9 min @ 350
*Don't refrigerate before shaping

I know, I know...Molasses cookies? They don't sound that great. But trust me. They are sooo soft and delicious.

And there's one thing I now know. I need a KitchenAid! :)

Hannah
